Watering and Irrigation for Newly Planted Trees

A newly planted tree cannot reach water the way an established one can. Bob's Tree Farm offers watering support for newly planted trees. This page covers new trees only, not whole-property irrigation.

Why the first seasons matter

A young tree has a small root system, so it depends on you for water while it grows into the surrounding soil. Steady, well-placed watering helps the roots go deeper instead of staying near the surface.

Watering methods we talk through

Which method fits depends on the tree, the soil and how your site is laid out.

  • Deep root watering

Water goes down near the root zone rather than wetting only the surface, which encourages deeper roots.

  • Drip irrigation

Water is released slowly at the tree, so you do not have to hand-water as often.

  • Mulching

A layer of mulch around the tree helps hold moisture in the soil. Keep it slightly back from the trunk.

What this service covers

This service is watering support for newly planted trees. It is not lawn, landscape or whole-property irrigation. If you are planting several trees, call and we will talk through how to water them.

Plan watering when you plant

Decide on a watering approach before the tree goes in the ground, so the water source and layout are ready from day one. When we plant your trees, we give you watering schedule and maintenance guidance.

Signs a new tree needs attention

  • Wilting or scorched leaf edges, with soil that is dry and cracked, can mean it needs more water
  • Yellowing leaves with soil that stays soggy can mean it is getting too much
  • Leaves dropping unusually early in the season
  • Not sure what you are seeing? Call and describe it

What watering methods do you offer?

Deep root watering, drip irrigation and mulching. We talk through which one fits your trees and property.

Do you install irrigation for lawns or a whole property?

No. This service is watering support for newly planted trees only.

How can I tell if a new tree is getting the wrong amount of water?

Wilting or scorched leaf edges with dry soil can mean too little water. Yellowing leaves with soil that stays soggy can mean too much. Call if you are unsure.
